RYA Intermediate Powerboat - Day Cruising Course
A 2-day course intended to benefit those who have completed an RYA Level 2 Course and now wish to undertake short daytime coastal passages.
The course covers the practical use of pilotage and passage planning techniques, by day on coastal waters, using both traditional and electronic navigational methods. Time is spent on chartwork and navigation, using plotting instruments and the use of GPS chart plotters and other aids to navigation.
Tides, tidal diamonds and tidal heights are covered in detail to give the student a complete understanding of the effect on a passage, and a course to steer is plotted to counteract the tide.
All on water work is conducted from our rib 'Blue Jacket' and much of the time is spent running short passages taken from the chart. By the end of the course students will have a full understanding of passage planning and be able to prepare and safely conduct a short passage.
