RYA Motor Cruising Courses

Quality Time is an RYA Training Centre, providing practical motor cruiser handling and navigational Courses on craft up to 24m in length.

A suitably sized motor cruiser or our 8 metre RIB 'Blue Jacket' is provided for relevant courses if you do not have your own boat.

 

RYA Start Motor Cruising Course

A 1-day intended to benifit those with no previos experience of being a crew menber and introducing the skills required to do this and understand of how they can assist the helm

RYA Helmsman's Course

A 2-day course intended to provide the candidate with sufficient practical experience to safely handle small to medium-sized  motor cruisers.

RYA Motor Cruising Advanced Pilotage Course

A 2-day course intended to teach boat handling, seamanship,pilotage and navigation up to the standards required to drive a motor cruiser safely and undertake ashort coastal passage.

RYA Day Skipper Practical

A 4-day course intended to provide the candidate with sufficient practical experience, navigation, pilotage and safety to safely handle a motor cruiser during daylight and at night on short coastal passages.

RYA Yachtmaster Coastal Practical

A 4-day course providing tuition in the skills and techniques required to safely skipper a motor cruiser of at least 7m and up to 24m in length, on coastal and offshore passages by day and night.

International Certificate of Competence (ICC)

A 2-day course intended for those who require a qualification to drive powered craft in European waters.

RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate of Competence - Examination Preparation

The Yachtmaster practical examination is conducted by an independent examiner appointed by the RYA. We are able to provide Exam preparation for this examination. Tuition is usually on a one to one basis or with small numbers and is tailored to meet each candidate's needs.

All candidates are required to have completed 50 days of sea time with 5 days as skipper, 2500 miles with 5 passages over 60 miles including 2 over-night and 2 as skipper. Candidates should have a knowledge of navigation to Day Skipper level as an absolute minimum but preferably to Coastal/Yacht Master level

Training is carried out on either our school boat 'K Sera Sera' or the candidate's own vessel and seeks to raise the candidate's skill level to a point where they are able to successfully complete the examination.

The examination is carried out over an 8 hour period and commences during the afternoon. Candidate are required to plan and produce a passage plan for a given passage and to demonstrate their theoretical and practical skills.

Successful candidate's may apply for a commercial endorsement to operate vessels in Category 2 providing that they hold a VHF/DSC certificate and a First Aid qualification.
